Edward Picton-Turbervill

Edward Picton-Turbervill is a prize-winning composer and a published author, and is due to release the first recording of his compositions with Delphian in 2025.

He has premiered works written for him by Michael Finnissy, Nico Muhly, Francis Pott, Daniel Saleeb and Alex Groves, and his own composition, It is Here, won first prize at the inaugural UK songSLAM. He was a Leeds Lieder Young Artist in 2023, and has become both a Britten Pears Young Artist 24-25 and a 2024 City Music Foundation Artist. Edward’s first book, Talking Through Trees, was published in 2017 by the Old Stile Press. Edward is the founder of Pipit, a company which exists to bring song recitals back into people’s homes.

 

Alongside his performing and composition, he is committed to music education and outreach: from 2018-2021, he was Head of Music at Atlantic College, where he oversaw a major refurbishment of the music buildings and steered the department through the pandemic. He now works as organist at St John the Divine, Kennington, assisting with the church’s renowned youth programme.

 

Edward is a Junior Fellow at Guildhall, where he studies with Caroline Palmer, having completed a Master’s in piano accompaniment with distinction and the concert recital diploma in July 2023. He was the Organ Scholar at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he read Music, graduating with a First. Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued a Master’s in Environmental Policy, and then spent a further year as an exchange student at the University of Heidelberg.
