Nishla Smith wins at the UK Theatre Awards
Nishla Smith, a 2020 CMF Artist has won at the prestigious UK Theatre Awards. Nishla won Best Supporting Performance in a Musical or Play for her performance in Kes, an Octagon Theatre and Theatre By The Lake co-production.
Kes was awarded ★★★★ in The Guardian, with Mark Fisher commenting that “Smith circles, the embodiment of the kestrel, under the precise movement direction of Jennifer Jackson. She becomes only more ethereal as she sings dreamy renditions of The Girl from Ipanema and It Might as Well Be Spring. Her voice is exquisite, a symbol of unreachable beauty.”
Nishla is a singer and writer driven by a desire to tell stories. Her unique musical sensibility, along with this preoccupation with narrative, is recurrent throughout her diverse array of musical projects.
