Ensemble Hesperi’s latest news
Ensemble Hesperi have shared an updated on their recent and upcoming performances.
Helen Charlston has picked up the Concept Album Award at the 2023 Gramophone Awards. Her album, Battle Cry: She Speaks, out now on Delphian, features Helen and Toby Carr (theorbo) in “a programme that homes in on emotional mistreatment of some familiar females with such intent that the result seems an urgent and forceful statement – a battle cry indeed – on their behalf” (Gramophone). The concept album also features Owain Park’s Battle Cry, a piece which was commissioned by City Music Foundation.
Helen has two more albums out at the moment:
Dido and Aeneas under the baton of David Bates. Helen is “a luxurious First Witch” – Gramophone
The Honour of William Byrd – Instrumental and Vocal Works. “Whether or not these vocal works were meant to be sung by male singers is debatable, but Helen Charlston’s rich, deep timbre make such distinctions irrelevant” – Classical Music Magazine
Acclaimed for her musical interpretation, presence and “warmly distinctive tone” (The Telegraph), Helen Charlston has quickly cemented herself as a key performer in the next generation of British singers.
