Alastair Penman’s new album announced
Alastair Penman’s new album, Soar, featuring music for saxophone and piano, will be released on Friday 16th June.
Join us on Thursday 28th July at 18:00 on YouTube for the premiere of percussionist James Larter’s recent concert at Barts Great Hall. Joined by special guests pianist Tyler Hay and guitarist Ollie Clark, James presents a programme entitled ‘Landscapes and Tales’ as part of our ‘Piece of Mind’ series connecting music and words in partnership with Barts Heritage.
Percussionist and multi-instrumentalist James Larter has always been obsessed with rhythm; whether it be the roaring sound of Brazilian Samba or the intricate palette of the Contemporary classical repertoire, music that makes people move is a passion. James has also performed Richard Rodney-Bennett’s Marimba Concerto live on BBC Radio 3 with the BBC Philharmonic under the baton of John Wilson and has featured at the Royal Festival Hall, as the soloist in ‘The Bloodless Giant’, helping to compose and arrange the percussion music and coach over 300 young musicians.
The concert features three works written by James, which frame Ollie Clark’s ‘Maria’, Emmanuel Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba, and an improvisation for Tibetan Singing Bowls prepared especially for this event.
Alastair Penman’s new album, Soar, featuring music for saxophone and piano, will be released on Friday 16th June.
Rosalind Ventris’ recently released album, SOLA, has been reviewed by The Arts Desk with Bernard Hughes calling it “utterly gripping”.
