Three CMF Artists made Associate Honours at RAM
We are pleased to report that three City Music Foundation Artists will be conferred as Associate Honours (ARAMs) at the Royal Academy of Music.
Harriet Burns is the recipient of numerous awards including 2nd prize at the 2019 Wigmore Hall/Independent Opera International Song Competition, the Compulsory Song Prize and Recital Prize at the 2019 International Vocal Competition in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, 1st prize at the 2019 Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards, winner of the 2018 Oxford Lieder Young Artists Platform, the 2017 Paul Hamburger Prize for Lieder and the 2017 Franz-Schubert-Institut Competition.
Reacting to the news, Harriet posted a photo of her as a student at the Academy on Twitter, saying
“The little undergrad in this photo would have never believed that she’d be awarded an ARAM ten years later. Thank you so much @RoyalAcadMusic, it means a hell of a lot to me “
George Xiaoyuan Fu
Passionate about the creation of new work, George is an active composer and performer of both traditional and contemporary music, having collaborated with eminent composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Harrison Birtwistle, Tansy Davies, Philip Cashian, George Lewis, Unsuk Chin, Matthew Aucoin, and Freya Waley-Cohen.
Welsh harpist Gwenllian Llyr is quickly gaining international recognition for her charismatic and engaging performances.
Gwenllian, who works with the strings department on their chamber music activity, said on her Facebook page “Wythnos fishi arall, ond hyfryd cael rhannu newyddion da! So excited to share that I’ve been awarded an Associate Honour (ARAM) from the Royal Academy of Music I may have only been a student for a solitary year, but managed to pack a lot of learning and development into that year, including being the first to complete an Advanced Diploma in Harp. I love that I still have a relationship with RAM in a different capacity, working with the strings department as a coordinator for their chamber music activities-it works perfectly alongside my harp career and parenting. Plus it keeps me in the know about all the goings on
Looking forward to the ceremony in May “
