Duo Melus was formed in 2019 by two distinguished London-based instrumentalists, flautist Katie Taunton and pianist Jack Redman.
In November 2023 they made their debut at Wigmore Hall and recently became 2024 City Music Foundation Artists. With Jack also a composer, they have an affinity for new repertoire and innovative programming. The duo are enthusiastic about presenting newly curated programmes to diverse audiences, and their current project involves the revival of overlooked Welsh flute and piano works, putting the spotlight on the compositions of Grace Williams, Huw Watkins, and Rhian Samuel.
Alongside their Jack and Katie individually maintain active freelance careers. Jack was a 2022/2023 Oxford Song Young Artist and a finalist in the 2023 Kathleen Ferrier Awards. He has been repetiteur for a range of productions, including Handel’s Semele for Glyndebourne Festival Opera (2023). Katie is an academist with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Orchestra and is an Open Academy Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music. She is supported by the Royal Philharmonic Society Julius Isserlis scholarship.
Both are graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music where their training included mentorship from renowned flautists Emily Beynon and Anna Noakes, and esteemed pianist Michael Dussek.
