Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo’s spring 2024 concerts

Mikeliez Zucchi Duo

City Music Foundation is pleased to share details of all Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo’s upcoming concerts, festival appearances and music society performances this spring.

Barnes Music Festival

Wed 13th Mar 2024, 1pm
St. Mary’s Barnes

The Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo bring their compelling combination of instruments – saxophone and accordion – to the concert hall, exploring the symbolic relationship between these two instruments and dance music, and paying tribute to legends of music and dance.

In Greek mythology, Terpsichore is the goddess of dance and poetry, and her legacy as a divine inspiration to artists resonates throughout music history. This programme is built around Michael Praetorious’ collection of instrumental dances named after Terpsichore, and subsequently encompasses Eastern European traditional music to nuevo tango; Scottish folk music to Maurice Ravel’s homage to his fallen comrades and the composer François Couperin.

NW Live Arts: Creative Connections

NW Live Arts presents Creative Connections, in conjunction with St John’s Waterloo.

NW Live Arts have invited five musicians to co-curate a concert, sharing their favourite music from their cultures and their careers as musicians. The result is a captivating mix of Basque folk, baroque, South American, contemporary, Central European, Indian contemporary and Middle Eastern music, along with jaw-dropping improvisation. The programme is delightfully woven together in a continuous 70-minute performance, telling stories of what brings us together in a joyful celebration of our shared humanity.

Alongside the concert performance, they are running creative workshops with the St John’s Waterloo community. In these workshops, music, improvisation and storytelling will collide, culminating in a soundscape devised by the musicians and workshop attendees as equal creative partners.

A Canadian saxophonist and Spanish accordionist may sound like an unusual pairing, but this dynamic duo won the Royal Overseas League Annual Music Competition’s Mixed Ensemble Prize.

The pair has performed live on In Tune for BBC Radio 3, at the Wigmore Hall, Edinburgh Fringe and at venues across Europe. With roots in jazz and folk, both instruments are on the fringes of classical music, but the combined richness of sound promises a captivating musical experience. A dance-themed programme includes works by Praetorius, Ravel and Piazzolla.
