Ensemble Hesperi have shared an updated on their recent and upcoming performances.
Lotte Betts-Dean will give the first ever performance of a new work by Nicole Smede at 2024’s Canberra International Music Festival. Smede will write a work for mezzo-soprano and electronics.
Smede is a multidisciplinary artist who works in music, visual art and poetry. She is a mezzo-soprano of Warrimay Birbay, English and Irish ancestry. A prolific composer for film, she received the inaugural Space to Create residency from Creative Australia. In 2023, she was selected as a participant for the Ngarra-Burria First Peoples Composers program, where she will work with Ensemble Offspring.
Australian mezzo soprano Lotte Betts-Dean is a versatile and dynamic concert artist, whose performance experience encompasses opera, oratorio, contemporary music, art song recital/chamber music, early music and non-classical collaborations. She has been based in London since 2014 and works internationally, most often in the UK and Australia.
