James Larter featured in Guardian article
James Larter’s solo recital at World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens in Nine Elms has been featured in an article in the Guardian. Writing about the venue, Fiona Maddocks noted that “Last weekend the young percussionist-composer James Larter gave a virtuosic solo programme of his own works – among them Goroka, with electronics, inspired by the sounds and colours of Papua New Guinea – and pieces by Michael Gordon, Kevin Volans and Astor Piazzolla. A fugue from a JS Bach violin suite sounded, unbelievably, tailor-made for sticks and marimba. So too did Debussy’s Clair de lune.”
Percussionist and multi-instrumentalist James Larter has always been obsessed with rhythm; whether it be the roaring sound of Brazilian Samba or the intricate palette of the Contemporary classical repertoire, music that makes people move is a passion. He is an in-demand session musician, soloist and composer and has played with a wide and eclectic variety of groups and artists from Sampha and Gang of Youths to the London Philharmonic Orchestra, St Petersburg Ballet, English National Opera and the Philharmonia. Most recently, he was selected as a 2021 City Music Foundation Artist.
