Soliloquies for Harp

City Music Foundation are over the moon to have supported harpist Gwenllian Llŷr’s brand new album, Soliloquies, which comes out on Friday 22 July on Recordiau Tŷ Cerdd Records.

Soliloquies is an album of Welsh music for solo harp that is very close to Gwenllian’s heart. She writes: “Welsh music has, perhaps inevitably, played a significant part in my life: from my first big win in the Gŵyl Cerdd Dant, aged 10, playing one of John Thomas’s most popular arrangements, Ffarwel y Telynor (The Minstrel’s Adieu), to performing in New York’s Carnegie Hall with Côrdydd choir in a showcase of Welsh music. It feels fitting, then, that my next recording project should be all about Welsh music.”

Gwenllian’s album features familiar favourites of the harp repertoire including John Parry’s Sonata in D Major and folk songs including Suo Gân. They feature alongside Gwenllian’s own rhapsodic Ffantasi ar ‘Calon Lân’, and a two movement work Melangell by Mared Emlyn which was commissioned by City Music Foundation.
